9 Days, 8 Nights, 6 Hotels, 4 countries, 3 Kids, 2 Strollers...
We recently returned from a whirlwind, incredibly fun trip around Europe. I'll admit to being worried about taking 3 little boys on a trip like this. But I should have given my kids more credit. They were really great, with only a couple exceptions. We tried to plan with kids in mind, meaning we saw no museums. We concentrated on things the kids would enjoy also, like tulip gardens in Amsterdam, gondola ride to the top of Mt. Pilatus in the Alps, seeing an old Dutch village with windmills and some animals--places they would be able to get out of the stroller and run around. We did go into churches and do a castle tour and even got a little shopping in. The scariest moment was on the last day when Don and I were looking around a woodcarver's shop for a nativity and the shop owner said the boys could eat their chocolate ice cream cones on the steps in a hallway. This was ok until Burke came running into the main shop with brown ice cream covered hands, tempting fate as he got way too close to all these beautiful wooden figures. We caught him just in time.
We did get some fun looks as we passed people. I was usually pushing Soren, walking behind Don who was pushing the older two boys. I would see people look at Don and the boys, then they'd see me and Soren, and then look back at Don...I think they were amazed when they realized that we were all together.
So here's a rundown of our trip, from Don.

Oh my gosh you would think you guys were part of a travel magazine. You went to some gorgeous places. We have always thought your little family was so cute. I am sure that although many were caught off guard by the novality of a real family, they were more in awe of your handsome little boys.
Wow!! what a totally amazing trip! I loved seeing all the pictures. Your blog ALWAYS makes me want to travel again... just when I thought I didn't care anymore! :)
Was it hard to go places and not see grown up stuff? I think it might be hard for me to pass up museums, but maybe not... you can't see everything anyhow, right? And it looks like you found some cool things for everyone and had sunshine, too! (these are the days we really start aching for sunshine around here!)
wow, looks like you guys had a great time! very brave to travel with such little ones, i'm sure you were an attraction yourselves! can't wait to see your Nativity, what a great trip!
I love the clog picture! Such big feet. What a wonderful trip together as a family. And that castle is just amazing. I'm jealous you got to see all the things I've only seen pictures of. Next time, we'll join you!
OHH, lots of fun. SOmeday!
can't wait til we start getting our fair share of weird looks:) way cute blog Amy.
I read your post several days ago but haven't commented because I'm still trying to get over the fact that my little sister a)is living in Europe b)has three little boys c)is awesome enough (okay-Don can have some credit too) to traipse around Europe with them. You guys are amazing. I'm glad that you're taking great pictures, because they won't remember tons of this. William probably will remember some. I love how adventurous you guys are. That takes a lot of fortitude to take three boys three and under across Europe. Heck, it takes a lot just to go to the grocery store, much less a nine day road trip! Thanks for sharing your awesome pictures.
P.S. Since this post, Jody and I are trying to pin down a time to come see you. We even asked Joan and Conessa last night if they will do the honors of taking care of our brood, and they said yes-talk about fortitude!
Love you and can't wait to see you! -- I wish I had the ability to underline, italicize, and boldface in comments, because there would have been a lot of that in the previous sentence :)
What an awesome trip and what great pictures! Looks like you are thoroughly enjoying living in Europe. And good on you for it! :0)
