Needless to say, with how much time Burke spent in just his socks, his socks got pretty dirty sometimes. Disgusting. In the picture above, you can even see the hole he got in this pair of socks from dragging his socked feet on the ground.
A bombed out church. They say after WWII there was more rubble in Berlin than in all other German cities combined. Almost everything was rebuilt, but they have left this church as it was.

We thought this was pretty funny.
Berlin wall

Checkpoint Charlie, where all Allied forces had to go through when leaving West Berlin for East Berlin. Also the site of an intense tank confrontation between the Soviets and the Allied Forces.

A Begatti (spelling?). Don had to go inside to take a picture. I waited outside with the wife of another man who was also inside taking pictures. :) I've never even heard of the brand of car.
Brandenburg Gate, where all triumphal marches came through. Like Paris' Arc d'Triumph.
Melissa at the Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe. There are almost 3000 of these stone markers here.

That's funny about the teenager and the shoe. I'm sure your family had such a fun time seeing the sites with their grandkids. Looks like you guys are really enjoying it out there!

I love the story about the shoe. You are exactly right what is a teenage boy going to do with a shoe anyway. I am glad you got it back and it looks like you got to go alot of cool places in the meantime.
how fun!! seriously, why on earth would he take that shoe?! love the pics!!
You are so generous in sharing your pictures and your adventures. Especially for a Mom and Grandma who is HUNGRY for the sight of all of you. You look fabulous, but best of all, you are fabulous. What a great little family!
What a wonderful trip!! and what a weird kid to take a toddler shoe! I'm so glad you got it back. I love that you've been able to have family out to visit. what wonderful memories. Grandparents are ABSOLUTELY the best. I just wish we had some next door! My mom thinks there should be a direct transfer (like the bank chute) to send the kiddos down to visit anytime. I like the sound of that, too. :)
Amazing trip! You are having such neat experiences! I love that your kids get to go to all these great places. Someday they will appreciate it:)
Amy, I love that you get to have all the great experiences of beautiful history with your family . Scott lived in Germany for 3 yrs, it is his home away from home, we have visited, but not with our boys, we will have 3 in Spet. too, you have inspired me to bring them along next time. So impressed you took them to Neuschweinstein. Brooke is moving to Vienna in June, another must see, maybe next time we go, we will visit BOTH of you! take care.
