Don and I swear by Panasonic. The DVD player pictured above (typical Will--all his animals lined up in a row!)was our first Panasonic purchase (actually a gift). This thing has come in handy more times than we can tell. It has a 12 hour battery life, which is soo nice for our long international flights. The sound and picture are great. It is pretty much indestructible, I think. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly), my boys have dropped it I don't know how many times, and it works as well as it did the first day we got it.
This DVD player is what got me through potty training. It took us a few weeks to even get William to sit on his potty chair with his clothes on. He just hated it. Finally I came up with this idea. I got him a cool waterbottle, filled it with juice (which is a special treat for him) and had him sit on the potty chair while watching his favorite movie, Toy Story, in the bathroom with this portable DVD player. I kept reminding him to drink his juice. Towards the end of the movie, of course he couldn't help but go to the bathroom. For the next few weeks, watching Toy Story and drinking from his waterbottle got him pottytrained!
This DVD player was very useful this year on New Year's Eve. New Year's Eve parties are THE party of the year in Denmark, and people stay until 2, 3, 4 am, whatever. We were told that of course we could leave as early as we wanted to, especially having three kids. So we brought the DVD player to our friend's house and thought we'd just stay as long as the boys were still happy. The party started with a formal dinner, and that did not mix well with our boys, so we sent them to watch a movie while we were able to enjoy a delicious dinner and adult conversation. It was heaven. Our boys didn't watch movies the whole time, of course, but they watched a few that night, meaning we were able to stay until 3 am!! Believe it or not, Burke only fell asleep about 20 minutes before we left, and William was still awake. Crazy. In Denmark it is legal to personally buy huge fireworks that shoot way up into the air, so if you go outside at midnight, there are huge firework shows going off from backyards in every direction you look. It's great. We had a great time, and we owe alot of it to this mini DVD player.
Of course our boy's allowed time of movie watching is limited, but I'm just saying a mini DVD player is useful in situations where a regular TV/DVD player (which we don't have here) just isn't possible.
Anyway, this DVD player convinced us to buy a Panasonic video camera when our last one died, and we love the new video camera. And a couple of months ago, our point and shoot camera died. We replaced it with, you guessed it, a Panasonic camera. I am so excited to have a point and shoot camera again!!

One time a guy that James works with was selling this same thing for $20! We were really excited and were going to get it. Then we found out he had "several" of them meaning they were probably stolen. As much as we wanted it, we dont support stolen goods. So we are without the mini DVD. Good news: we are still surviving!
yay for panasonic! and i never heard that story about will's potty training experience--hilarious! adorable pic as well. i love the animals.
That is soooooo William. I just love how all of his animals are watching the video with him...each standing straight and tall in its proper order in the row! I love that little boy and I miss him more than I can say.
I have never heard of that idea before but I guess you do what works best for your kids. I am glad you got to celebrate New Year's with your friends.
Braelyn was so much like that when she was little, everything in order, completely organized. It is so fun to watch their little minds work. And as for the Jane Austen books, I gave Braelyn the set for Christmas and apparently I really wanted them for myself. I only have 2 left to read, which means there are way too many things NOT getting done around here that definitely SHOULD be getting done around here! Anyway, potty training is just about upon us, so maybe I'll try your trick! Love you guys.
Good potty training idea! I'll have to remember that one... Your international New Years sounds fun!
WOW! We still haven't gotten a portable DVD player, but we're driving to Utah this summer. Maybe it'll be time. The potty training idea is AWESOME. I'm remembering that one! Carver's motivated to wear mcqueen pull-ups - maybe watching the movie would help, too!
What a wild New Year's Eve! How fun! I'm glad that you could stay out!
I love how mom's are inspired to do what will work for their children. Yay for William. I'm proud of you. I want to come to your party next year. It was way more exciting than us this year. We watched a movie as a family and all went to bed by 10:30pm.
